resumeBill Flood, Resume
Listening, listening, listening. Organizing, organizing, organizing.

My work is rooted in the training and practice of listening to what people are really saying and helping them organize around their own issues and opportunities.

My expertise falls under the following categories:

Developing Innovative Programs And Needed Resources

I am known for my track record in leading all steps of successful program development and management - from concept development to evaluation of outcomes. Often my programs are "firsts" :
  • the first community development training institute in Oregon for leaders developing housing and economic development opportunities for low-income persons

  • the first statewide arts and community development programs in Oregon

  • the first program in the nation funding county and tribal-based arts, heritage, and humanities cultural coalitions

  • the first academy for leaders within Oregon community colleges focused on innovation and better serving today's students and workforce

"Bill Flood has a discerning passion for community issues that is highly regarded throughout the state. The Cultural Trust's creation of Oregon's county and tribal cultural coalitions would never have been possible without Bill's leadership and understanding of the multitude of issues involved."

- Bill Bradley,
Oregon Secretary of State
Salem, Oregon

Working With Multiple Groups to Develop Resources and Overcome Barriers

I work with many different people - across boundaries of race, class, and geography - and around difficult issues. The range of issues spans from supporting the most rural Oregon communities and Tribes in their use of culture as a revitalizing force, to helping 200 Washington County, Oregon police officers build multicultural understanding and skills. I often work with rural and low-income communities, stressed urban neighborhood, artists, ethnic groups, and the organizations serving these people and communities. I work with groups to develop their resources and overcome barriers.

Integrating Arts And Culture With Community Organizing

Following my earlier training and work in the physical and social sides of community development, I have spent the last 20 years assisting communities identify and integrate their unique cultures with community development. This process of community cultural development builds a deeper level of civic engagement and community improvement stategies based on the history, conditions, and resources of people and their connection to place.

Thoughtful Management And Attention To Detail

Start on time, end on time. I have learned that all people respond to respect, clear communication, and follow-through with commitments.
